Parliamentary vote on health care reform could come as soon as Friday |
|
Senate Majority Leader Harry M. Reid scrambled Tuesday to lock down
votes behind a health-care bill that he may present as early as
Wednesday.
The Nevada Democrat would not confirm that he had received
commitments from all 60 members of his caucus to overcome GOP
procedural objections and bring the bill to the Senate floor, saying
only, "I feel cautiously optimistic that we can do that. I think we're
together as a caucus."

Georgia Business Summit - "Impact of Healthcare on Georgia Businesses" |
|
Governor Perdue hosted several forum speakers to discuss federal
healthcare and energy proposals that impact both large and small
Georgia businesses. “Issues currently being debated in Washington
will have a serious economic impact on businesses and state government.
It is critical for citizens, businesses, and government officials to
understand the financial realities of healthcare reform and energy
legislation, both in the check books of Georgia
families and in the state budget. This summit allows business leaders
from across the state to learn the specifics of proposals being
considered and to discuss how their ability to create and retain jobs
will be affected.” - Governor Sonny Perdue
Based on the healthcare bill passed by the Senate Finance Committee,
the Georgia Department of Community Health projects nearly one million
new Georgians would become eligible for Medicaid and Peachcare, costing
the state $3.6 billion from 2014 to 2019 if all newly eligible sign up.
If 80 percent of the newly eligible enroll, more than 740,000 new
members would carry an additional benefit cost to the state of $2.4
billion over those same years.

Pelosi's dare paid off as public option was not sticking point
Reps. Baron P. Hill
(Ind.), elected with the class of 2006 that gave Democrats the House
majority, and Dan Maffei (N.Y.), who rode to office with President
Obama on a Democratic wave last year, were among the last lawmakers to
make up their minds on Saturday's historic health-care vote.
